Stone Cold Steve Austin has given his bottom line on the return of Bill Goldberg and the booking plan to have him challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble on January 31.
At the conclusion of WWE Raw Legends Night on January 4, Goldberg made his emphatic return to World Wrestling Entertainment after Drew McIntyre had retained his prize against Keith Lee. His reason was to lambast ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ and take aim at his strap at the Royal Rumble.
While the return of Goldberg has upset many fans who are experiencing flashbacks to WWE Super Showdown In Saudi Arabia in 2020, Stone Cold Steve Austin has a different view on the return as he told Booker T during an appearance on the star’s Hall of Fame Podcast:
“When Bill [Goldberg] does that, I mean, he’s put himself in the position to do it. So as a businessman, hey, I get it. And so it is what it is… It can bring some eyeballs back from the Attitude Era or WCW, when they were going against us [in the] Attitude Era, but it is what it is. And it’s a business move by Bill, and if Bill wants to do business, he’s gonna do business.”
Though he was unable to appear on the January 11 Monday Night Raw after being diagnosed with COVID-19, McIntyre made an appearance via satellite link to accept the challenge.
WWE officially announced that the pair would contest the WWE Championship on January 31 at the 2021 Royal Rumble, which falls after Drew McIntyre’s period of isolation expires.
