Isaiah Swerve Scott is the new NXT North American Champion after defeating Bronson Reed for the title on the 29th of June edition of NXT on USA.
In the night’s main event Swerve faced Reed for the title in what was only Reed’s second title defence. The Australian star had previously defended the title successfully as part of a winner-take-all six-man tag team match where he teamed with MSK to defeat Legado del Fantasma.
The match which lasted a little over thirteen minutes saw Swerve’s Hit Row faction try to interfere on his behalf. Reed sidestepped Top Dolla who went crashing through the perspex barriers at ringside in the Capitol Wrestling Center. Reed followed up by sending Ashante Adonis crashing over the barrier as well. That distraction proved enough in the end as Swerve caught Reed with a dropkick as he was re-entering the ring. With the big man dazed Isaiah Swerve Scott went to the top rope and delivered a devastating 450 splash to claim the victory and the championship.
With the victory, Isaiah Swerve Scott becomes the tenth different man to hold the NXT North American Championship since its introduction to the black and gold brand in April 2018. Bronson Reed had only won the title in the middle of May defeating the only man to have held the title more than once Johnny Gargano in a steel cage match.
With Reed losing his title, this potentially clears the path for him to join the main WWE roster as he was reportedly backstage at both Raw and SmackDown recently and competed in a match for Main Event. Reed is far from the only NXT Superstar potentially heading to Raw or SmackDown with Vince McMahon himself reportedly heading to the Performance Center to scout talent for the main roster.
Bronson Reed himself took to social media after the match leading to further speculation about his imminent future. Reed tweeted:
“My fans, my friends, my family. My wife. I failed you. I’m sorry. Now what? @WWENXT”
