A WWE analyst raised an important question post SummerSlam, asking whether Brock Lesnar was instructed by someone to attack John Cena.
As fans and the wrestling world in general were reeling from the shock return of The Beast Incarnate, analyst Sam Roberts questioned the reason behind the former champion’s actions.
WWE Analyst Sam Roberts Questions Brock Lesnar’s Ulterior Motive
Speaking on the SummerSlam Recap Show, Roberts expressed complete shock at Brock Lesnar’s return. Co-host Megan Morant also wondered if Lesnar looked visibly larger than before, to which Roberts replied that it was a common occurrence, and went on to describe the post-match beatdown on John Cena.
Roberts then recapped the former Undisputed Champion’s history with SummerSlam, adding that his last appearance was at the same PLE 2 years ago. He also mentioned that The Beast’s first title win was at the same event in 2002, where he beat The Rock. He expressed his shock once again and noted that it was a return that no one saw coming.
Roberts continued by asking if Cena’s change of character motivated The Conqueror to return to the company, reminding fans that it was at SummerSlam after WrestleMania 30 where Suplex City was invented and its first victim was The Chain Gang Soldier:
But what is this? Where does this go, and why? Was Brock Lesnar just watching SmackDown on Friday and goes, ‘What? What do you mean you’re Mr. Good guy again, John Cena? You’re here to do fan service? Really? Really, John Cena?’ Because, by the way, speaking of SummerSlam, how about the SummerSlam after WrestleMania 30?
You know what happened then? Suplex City was invented. The first resident? John Cena. He got absolutely creamed by Brock Lesnar. And that was the same Brock Lesnar I saw in the ring at this SummerSlam, the one who, to put it mildly, squashed John Cena. I remember I was in the audience for that SummerSlam too, and people watching said, ‘That was just uncomfortable.’ “
Roberts is then asked by his co-host why he didn’t have Brock as a potential opponent for the Cenation Leader for his Farewell Tour, where people, including her, were fantasy booking opponents such as CM Punk or a potential new feud with Drew McIntyre. Roberts replied in the negative and said that he should have given the history between the two stars. He added that while he had thought of opponents like Randy Orton or Punk, he didn’t mind a McIntyre feud as well.
He continued that he had thought of multiple fantasy bookings for Cena’s Farewell Tour, but The Beast Incarnate was not on his list:
No, but it should have been, because Cena and Brock Lesnar are amazing rivals. I mean, Brock Lesnar first came back to WWE after becoming, by the way, a World Champion in UFC, the night after WrestleMania 28 to face John Cena. That was the first time he stepped back into a WWE ring since his original run. There’s a deep history between Brock Lesnar and John Cena.
No, because I didn’t see it coming. I said, ‘No, I’m going with Randy Orton, CM Punk…’ Sure, I’d love to see a Drew McIntyre match. But no, Brock wasn’t on my list.”
Roberts then went on to question who The Beast Incarnate might be working for or why he had returned to attack Cena. He also wondered how his former opponents, such as Seth Rollins or Cody Rhodes, would have felt seeing him come back. The WWE analyst also thought about where exactly Lesnar would fit in the larger scheme of things:
But man… why is Brock back? Why is John Cena a target? Is Brock working for himself? Was he sent by someone else? How does Cody Rhodes feel about the fact that Brock Lesnar is back? How does Paul Heyman feel? How does Seth?
I mean, this universe, not just the WWE Universe like they call the fans, but the actual universe that is WWE… where and how does Brock Lesnar fit in?
