Interesting Goldberg Stat Emerges During Retirement Match

Goldberg forces Gunther to flee on WWE RAW

An interesting stat has popped up regarding Goldberg, and it has to do with his retirement match.

Tonight, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Goldberg performed in his official retirement match. The Hall of Famer was in the midst of challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship when an interesting stat or fact emerged.

The referee for tonight’s match was WWE Official Charles Robinson. Coincidentally, Robinson was also the referee 27 years ago when The Myth challenged Hollywood Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on the July 7, 1998 episode of Nitro.

He went on to defeat Hogan in that match, capturing the first of the four world titles he held throughout his pro wrestling career. It was a huge moment that cemented his legacy as one of the greatest wrestlers in WCW history.

With that in mind, it’s interesting to know that Charles Robinson officiated both Goldberg’s first-ever world title match and his last match ever.

Goldberg lost to Gunther via submission

Speaking of Goldberg’s last match ever, it unfortunately ended in defeat. The Myth put on an incredible show for the fans in Atlanta, Georgia, but could not get the job done against Gunther.

The Ring General found himself in some tight spots at times, but managed to retain the World Heavyweight Champion by locking in a sleeper hold on the Hall of Famer. The 58-year-old tried to get out of the hold, but to no avail.

Safe to say many would’ve loved to see the match end differently, but at the end of the day, this match will go down in history simply as WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg’s retirement match.
