With AEW currently nursing an ever-increasing injury list at the moment, a new report has shed light on the condition of two of the company’s biggest stars.
AEW’s supershow with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Forbidden Door, is in the books with some fans labelling the show snakebit in the run-up due to the injuries and missing stars plaguing both companies.
CM Punk had originally been scheduled to face Hiroshi Tanahashi on the show but that had to be changed in short order due to Punk suffering a foot injury. This meant Tanahashi instead took on Jon Moxley in the main event of the show to crown an Interim AEW World Champion in Punk’s absence.
Bryan Danielson was also set to be in a featured match against Zack Sabre Jr. but his injury allowed AEW to introduce Claudio Castagnoli as Danielson’s surprise replacement on the show.
The Undisputed Elite’s Adam Cole did wrestle at Forbidden Door in a four-way match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship but Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has given an update on Cole’s status following that bout.
Adam Cole is said to have suffered a “serious concussion” at Forbidden Door but the report also states that he has been wrestling with a torn labrum (shoulder). Meltzer adds that the shoulder injury is probably best fixed with surgery but that could mean an extended period out of action for the former NXT Champion.
Dave Meltzer also gave the latest update on former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, saying that there is still no timetable for him to return. Omega last wrestled back at Full Gear in November 2021 where he lost the AEW World Title to his former tag team partner Hangman Adam Page.
