A new report has claimed that an injured WWE Superstar could be set to return to television on the January 28th episode of SmackDown from Kansas City.

Xavier Woods has been out of action since the January 7th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. On the show, WWE’s resident King teamed with Kofi Kingston to take on The Usos in a Street Fight with SmackDown Tag Team gold on the line.

During the match, Woods attempted hit a DDT on Jey Uso from outside the ring back in. However, the current King of the Ring later revealed that he picked up an injury in the process. Appearing on G4’s Attack of the Show on January 13th, he explained that he would be out of action for between four to six weeks as a result of a torn plantaris. The muscle situated underneath the calf.

It has now been reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, that Woods is expected to be back on television on the go-home edition of SmackDown ahead of the Royal Rumble. Woods is also expected to be back on the road long-term, although there is no word on whether he has been cleared to compete in the ring.

Due to the timescale of his recovery, despite returning to television it’s unlikely he will feature in the Royal Rumble match on January 29th.

With the Royal Rumble just days away, the rumour mill is in full swing over which WWE Superstars both past and present might be making an appearance. It has recently been reported that Ronda Rousey could be set to return at the event, with a showdown against Becky Lynch reportedly under “heavy consideration” for WrestleMania 38.

It has already been confirmed that WWE Hall of Famer’s The Bella Twins and Lita will be in action, alongside IMPACT Knockouts Champion Mickie James.
