Despite their animosity, Drew McIntyre can’t fault CM Punk in one area.
At Bad Blood on October 5th, the long rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre was finally put to rest after a bloody Hell in a Cell match that saw McIntyre need medical attention afterward.
The two men had been at odds for nearly a year, ever since Punk made his surprise return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. In the Royal Rumble, a Future Shock DDT from Drew McIntyre took Punk out of action with an injury, and he wouldn’t return to the ring until facing McIntyre at SummerSlam the following August. However, the feud between the two men remained forefront on social media, with McIntyre taking many jabs at Punk during the months he was away.
Speaking in a new interview with the Daily Mail, Drew McIntyre spoke about his rivalry with Punk, saying they were able to create magic together.
As much as we have certain feelings towards each other, we both are aware we’ve got certain magic with each other. It’s a tale as old as time. The more people have a genuine disdain for each other, people can truly feel it. And if you’re actually good at your job, like we are, it does create magic. And the whole process was magic, and the cell itself was a match that we talked about forever.
“I Didn’t Hold Back” – Drew McIntyre On Social Media Jabs Toward CM Punk
Continuing, McIntyre made it clear that he had no intention of pulling punches when it came to his social media jabs toward Punk. McIntyre also admitted that he had to give Punk credit for taking the insults like a man and retaliating in kind.
I will say, however my feelings are towards him, I went completely gangbusters for him. I didn’t hold back. On TV, I can only go so far, but, on social, but it’s my social. You can’t tell me what to do. I went overboard. And the company could have asked me to pull back if they wanted me to, and I’d have said, ‘No, it’s my social’.
But I went at him and went at him. And I’ve done that with a couple of people, and they have got a boo boo face. Not that I care, but he didn’t. He ate it like a man, and then came back with what he had to say. So I’ll give him that.
