Edge is currently absent from WWE programming, but reports suggest he could return imminently – and he could do so as ‘The Rated R Superstar’!
Edge has enjoyed a vast array of successful character arcs throughout his career, but arguably none have been as crucial to his legacy as ‘The Rated R Superstar’. This has always been his moniker, but the actual character behind the name is best described as his main event heel persona from the mid-2000s.
In his most recent run, Edge was the leader of The Judgement Day alongside Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley. He was later ejected from the group in favour of Finn Balor, and has been absent from programming since. However, it was during this time that several of Edge’s mannerisms as the character were on display.
The two-time Royal Rumble winner’s return could be just around the corner, with mysterious vignettes airing on Raw over the last few weeks to promote his comeback. Bryan Alvarez noted on Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Live that his return is expected to come as ‘The Rated R Superstar’.
It’s expected that the real-life Adam Copeland will resurface on this coming Monday’s Raw, which is emanating from Madison Square Garden. The Judgement Day’s Balor and Priest will headline against Rey and Dominik Mysterio, so an Edge return to set up a SummerSlam match isn’t too unlikely.
‘The Ultimate Opportunist’ last wrestled at Hell In A Cell, leading The Judgement Day to victory over AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Liv Morgan. He’d previously turned heel for the first time since 2010 by attacking Styles ahead of WrestleMania 38, leading to their rivalry and subsequent formation of the now-Finn Balor-led trio.
