Currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion, GUNTHER has enjoyed a well-received reign with the title. He captured the ‘workhorse championship’ when he dethroned Ricochet on the June 10 Friday Night SmackDown, with ‘The Ring General’ next due to defend against the victor of the ongoing SmackDown World Cup.
Outside of this defence, though, the former WALTER is eyeing up a mouth-watering potential showdown with John Cena. GUNTHER was recently asked about the possibility of such a clash during an appearance on Steve Fall’s Ten Count podcast, noting that it was a bout that he would “love to do”:
“Of course, we could see it. I don’t know what’s going to happen or if it’s going to happen. Obviously, that’s something I would love to do. John Cena is one of the legends. Because he’s not really active at the moment anymore, he just pops up, but when he does, if the chance is there for me, I’ll gladly take it.
One of, if not the most popular babyface in this sport of all time. I think I would be a great counterpart to that. I would love to do it.”
GUNTHER has previously addressed a potential bout vs. John Cena during an interview with Sports Illustrated, explaining how he’d like to face the leader of the Cenation, as well as “anyone else who is considered elite”.
GUNTHER Has Been Presented Strongly On The Main Roster
Joining the main WWE roster on the post-WrestleMania 38 Friday Night SmackDown alongside Ludwig Kaiser, GUNTHER has upheld a strong presence on the blue brand. He’s gone unpinned and unsubmitted for the duration of his run, most recently felling Rey Mysterio on SmackDown’s November 4 episode.
This presentation has followed GUNTHER for his entire WWE career. He was presented as one of the most dominating forces in NXT and NXT UK, leading to his legendary 870-day reign as NXT UK Champion.
