Shane McMahon’s son, Declan McMahon, recently expressed his openness to the possibility of stepping into a WWE ring in the future.
In an interview with WU Online’s Michael Weaver Jr., Declan acknowledged that while his focus is currently on his football career, he doesn’t rule out the idea of joining the family business. Having grown up in the wrestling industry and even participating in his father’s entrance at WrestleMania 32, Declan has developed a deep appreciation for the sport. Although he is committed to Indiana University as a freshman running back, Declan is eager to explore a potential future in professional wrestling if the opportunity arises.
When you’ve come up in this business, and you’ve seen it… I’m never ruling it out. I would love to get in the ring, maybe, a couple of times. But obviously, you have to see if the opportunity presents itself. It’s all about the story. But we’ll see.
Declan emphasised the importance of storytelling in wrestling and expressed his willingness to participate in a few matches if given the chance. However, he understands that the opportunity must present itself naturally. Despite his commitment to football, Declan remains open to the idea of a WWE career, believing that fans would support him in that endeavour.
I think a lot of fans would get behind it if we ended up doing it. I think I’d be pretty good at it. But you never know. Never ruling that option out.
Currently, Declan is a redshirt freshman on the Indiana University football roster for the 2023 season, although he has yet to see playing time. He recently received recognition as the co-offensive scout team player of the week for his contributions in preparing the Indiana Hoosiers for a game against Michigan. While he continues to focus on his studies and football, Declan keeps the possibility of a WWE career in the back of his mind.
During WWE Fastlane, Declan was captured on camera alongside his Indiana teammates, showcasing the custom Indiana University “turnover belt” given to his defensive teammates for forcing turnovers.
In the same interview, McMahon was asked about his thoughts on rival promotions AEW and IMPACT, to which McMahon responded “I don’t watch that crap.”
