“I Hope He Can Continue To Dodge The Bullets”: Jim Ross Discusses Darby Allin’s Dive At AEW Revolution

Jim Ross has given his thoughts on Darby Allin’s death-defying dive at AEW Revolution.

The former TNT Champion did all he could to make Sting’s last match memorable by jumping off a 15-foot ladder to the outside and going crashing through a pane of glass. Bleeding profusely from the impact, many winced and recoiled in horror at the sheer amount of blood coming from Allin’s back.

While some of Allin’s reckless moves can divide opinion during most matches, the glass dive was one that some fans felt went too far and could have been very dangerous to Allin or others.

Discussing the spot on Grilling JR, Ross admitted that he was scared for Allin but noted that his daredevil style is very much a part of his appeal, adding that he was happy to have Allin in the company:

“I was scared for this kid, I’m that way a lot with Darby. You knew that he was going to try to do something special and something extraordinary, and he did. He succeeded. But he was just on his game, Darby Allin was one of the stars the entire night, and going through that glass and the glass and cutting his back and all that stuff was very drastic, very compelling. But that’s Darby.

There’s nothing too dangerous or too compelling for Darby Allin. He never ceases to amaze me. That’s why he’s one of the top pro wrestlers in the entire world. I’m glad that we got him in AEW right here. We got him. We got that kid, and what a great kid he is. And I know that that match meant a lot to him because he felt like there was a lot that depended upon his performance, and the things he was going to do.”

Ross continued, confirming a previous report that he had no idea about the glass and added that the idea was all Allin’s. However, Ross also stated that he hopes that the former TNT Champion won’t do one stunt too many and it will cause irreversible damage:

“And again, I had no idea about the glass. It was great for me because I can react naturally and normally, [well] normally for a wrestling announcer. But it was it was horrible in a good way, I guess. Because I don’t know of any other talent that would even attempt or even consider something this drastic. Nobody would Darby Allin was one of the stars of the entire show without question and he deserves all the accolades and the hugs that we could pile on him.

I’m anxious to see where it goes from here and what the follow-up is. And I just love that kid. I just hope that he can continue to dodge the bullets that he loads in his own gun and start shooting. He’s just an extraordinary, extraordinary talent and nothing is too big. No assignment is too big and let’s all remember. He created this stuff. This is what he wanted to do.

Somebody didn’t come to him with a piece of paper and say hey, we want you to do these three things. It’s all Darby. And so for a guy to actually think about all afternoon what he’s going to be doing with that glass, I find it to be extremely extraordinary and extremely and brave. And just unbelievable. I’m proud I’m working with Darby, proud He’s my friend and I’m proud that he shows AEW more than anything else. He’s a star, a massive star.”

A backstage report gave an insight into how the Darby Allin spot was planned and what extra precautions were put in place.
