Stone Cold Steve Austin has spoken out in support of black and gold brand star Pat McAfee, giving the leader of The Kings of NXT his stamp of approval.
Since his return to NXT following a loss to Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver XXX, the former NFL star has taken WWE’s third brand by storm. Not only has he collected together one of the most promising stables in the industry today, but on the mic, the star has been utterly flawless.
Week in and week out his promos have been spot on, something he attributes to NXT not scripting him and allowing him to be himself, and his storyline of being the man responsible for the debilitation of Adam Cole has been gripping.
Now, former WWF Champion, Stone Cold Steve Austin has joined the ranks of many a star to praise the work McAfee has done thus far while speaking to ESPN:
“He puts it all on the line and is going for it. His verbal skills, he’s slaying everybody. He’s not afraid to go out there and put it on the line. You wouldn’t expect that from a guy who goes out there and kicks a football. Pat McAfee is badass and is doing a really good job. I give him a solid A.”
Austin isn’t the only former champion to praise the star recently. In a tweet sent out by CM Punk, the straight edge star orated his belief that everyone in WWE should feel shame that they’re being outperformed by the best promo guy in the industry.
Pat McAfee hasn’t been seen on NXT television since December 6, when The Kings of NXT lost a gripping WarGames bout to The Undisputed ERA. During that bout, Pat hit a death defying Swanton Bomb from the top of the cage and was seen sporting a neck brace to sell the bout on his subsequent podcast.
