“I Can Still Have The Best Match On The Show”: Chris Jericho On Having Fun & Building AEW

Fans hoping for a Chris Jericho retirement will seemingly have to wait a little longer.

The FTW Champion has been on the receiving end of more hostile reactions in recent months on AEW TV with the “Please retire” chants ringing out on numerous occasions while The Learning Tree deliriously ignores the fans’ pleas and instead has chosen to lean into it with by having his character ask for more TV time.

Despite having a wrestling career spanning more than 30 years and little left to accomplish in the wrestling world, Jericho still shows no signs of slowing down and looks to continue competing for the foreseeable future whether fans want to see it or not. However, with Father Time remaining undefeated, the former World Champion knows that the final match will have to happen at some point.

Appearing on McGuire on Wrestling, Jericho told host Mike McGuire that while he does not have a particular date in mind, he will know when the time comes, adding that right now he is still proud of his matches:

“I’ll know when it’s time, you know? I’m really enjoying what I’m doing and I’m still contributing at a high level,” Jericho said. “I can still have the best match on the show on any given night — not every night but any given night. And I just really love what we’re doing with AEW right now. So there’s really no rush on that. And when I know, I’ll know. And I think that’s kind of the best way to put it. And for right now, I’m having too much fun and enjoying it and really enjoying building AEW.

Just five years in, we’ve already gone so far and have so much further to go on the highest of levels. So from that standpoint, we’ll see. And as of right now, as long as I’m having fun and enjoying myself and feeling good in the ring and out, there’s no reason to stop.”
