Ahead of appearing on Monday Night Raw as part of ‘Legends Night’ Hulk Hogan sat down with ESPN to talk the reaction behind the scenes to his return, fame and a whole lot more.
When asked about the atmosphere backstage, and the welcome he receives when he goes back to WWE, he revealed that it’s somewhat mixed.
“Some people I get a really warm reception from. Some of the younger guys are really cold to me, like I’m coming to steal the main event. And I’m like, ‘I can’t do this anymore, guys! I’m not a threat!’
However, the Hall Of Famer does go on to add that he has received complements from the likes of Edge and Seth Rollins, saying that he’s the reason that they got into the business. While also admitting that the younger Superstars may not know the true extent of his past work.
“Going back with all the legends will be a lot of fun. When I’ve gone back before by myself, there have been certain wrestlers, like Edge and Seth Rollins, that have told me to my face that the only reason they got into this business was because of me. The newer kids … I don’t think they know who I am all the way?
The wake-up call that really got me was with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. We weren’t really close at all, but over the last few years have become good friends. It caught me off guard when he called me one day, and we’re chatting about cars or something and all of a sudden he goes, ‘Damn, Hogan. I was on the internet the other day and I can’t believe all the stuff you did in your career!’
‘Legends Night’ is set to take place inside the ThunderDome on January 4th, with Hulk Hogan appearing alongside the likes of Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, Beth Phoenix and many more.
While he may receive a mixed response from some of the younger Superstars, in a recent recent conversation with WWE UK, Hogan did reserve special praise for Drew McIntyre. Commenting that the WWE Champion is spot on in everything that he does.
