A new report has offered a huge update on what two of WWE’s biggest stars will be doing at SummerSlam.
On the June 17th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Riddle went toe-to-toe with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
In a close-fought contest, Riddle was roared on by a passionate crowd who desperately wanted to see him dethrone the long-time champion. However, despite delivering an RKO to the Tribal Chief, the Original Bro was felled by a spectacular Spear as he attempted to perform a springboard from the middle rope, ending his World Title dreams, at least for the time being.
Riddle didn’t have long to get over his disappointment as he was thrown into a Money In The Bank qualifying match against Omos on Raw. Again, the former Raw Tag Team Champion came up short, with his opponent proving just too big and too powerful.
Although it was what happened after the bell that caught fans’ attention. While suffering the effects of a bruising few days, Riddle was attacked by Seth Rollins. The Architect arriving to deliver a Curb Stomp to the already stricken star.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Riddle vs. Seth Rollins could be one of the marquee matches at SummerSlam on July 30th.
“I didn’t think he was going to win, but, I didn’t think that it was going to be, tree slam and then another tree slam, and then Rollins would lay him out and obviously the idea is, with Cody out, that Rollins who is, you know, top heel on the brand, probably is going to be doing a program with Riddle, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“The curb stomp thing by Seth, that didn’t bother me. Everything with Omos was just ridiculous. I just can’t even fathom it. Makes no sense at all, but Rollins is in Money in the Bank, so he’s not going to be wrestling Riddle on this pay-per-view anyway, so I guess it’s to start a feud for SummerSlam.”
Seth Rollins qualified for the men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match on June 13th with victory over AJ Styles.
