Huge Update On Kenny Omega’s AEW Contract

Tony Khan poses with Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega is one of All Elite Wrestling’s Executive Vice Presidents and founders, as well as one-third of the World Trios Champions, however, that hasn’t stopped speculation linking him with a move away from the company.

On February 17th it was reported that WWE was looking to land a big-name free agent, other than Jay white, who appears to be done with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. This led some fans to believe that the company would be about to make a stunning bid for Omega.

The star’s original four-year AEW deal was due to expire in January and little was known about whether a new contract had been agreed upon. Cody Rhodes left AEW in somewhat similar circumstances after working for a short period without a contract. This left him clear to negotiate with and then join WWE.

Part of the intrigue around Omega was whether AEW had added any time to his deal due to the nine months he spent injured. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has attempted to clarify the situation.

Meltzer noted that there has been time added to Omega’s contract but it is unclear how much. He adds that the Young Bucks’ contracts are up at the end of the year.

“The free agent reference in last week’s issue of the key guy WWE was looking at led to conjecture regarding Kenny Omega, which has been a name heavily talked about in certain circles in WWE and other places in wrestling as well. Omega’s AEW contract date was to have expired at the end of January as he had a four-year deal with no option clause to add time that started on February 1, 2019. His contract does allow AEW to extend it for the time he was out injured, which has happened. He was out nine months so that would be a maximum of November but the extended time frame hasn’t been finalized as far as how long…

The Young Bucks deals are up at the end of the year. One would expect all of them to get offers from WWE and AEW that are for great money from either side.”

Kenny Omega was most recently in action on the February 17th episode of Rampage where he teamed with the Bucks to defeat Top Flight and AR Fox.

Kenny Omega or Kota Ibushi To WWE?

There have also been rumours that WWE is looking to sign Kota Ibushi now that he has left NJPW. The man himself recently admitted that he would be open to joining the company, but only if certain conditions are met.
