In recent weeks Drew McIntyre’s WWE future has grown increasingly uncertain.
The Scottish star’s contract has less than a year to run and he and WWE are reportedly some distance apart when it comes to agreeing new terms. Meanwhile, a further report stated that McIntyre was unhappy with money and creative.
To add even more fuel to the fire, it has been reported that there is a “good chance” that the star will leave the company.
A new report from Fightful Select has now attempted to add more details to the situation including confirmation that McIntyre will become a free agent in early 2024.
With regard to speculation that the former World Champion is leaning towards leaving the company, Fightful notes that it’s more of a case of him not knowing what comes next. If “things aren’t working for both sides” McIntyre is said to be open to exploring his options but will leave the door open for a return in the future.
McIntyre has been working banged up but was reportedly adamant that he would compete at WrestleMania 39 and put Gunther over.
However, there are said to have been “several” situations where the star hasn’t been on the same page as WWE and has become frustrated. McIntyre is usually aware of his plans for the Draft but wasn’t told that he was moving to Raw until it was announced on television.
There have been “several perceived miscommunications” between McIntyre and WWE in the last couple of years.
McIntyre is known to be hands-on when it comes to creative and there have been pitches for him to turn heel. However, he is “adamant” that he will only do so if it creatively makes sense.
In addition, many talents are unsure how WWE’s deal with Endeavor will affect them, but the company has taken a “different approach” to contract renewals in the last couple of years.
Drew McIntyre Removed From Money In The Bank Advertising
Drew McIntyre hasn’t wrestled since his match with Gunther and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39. With his future uncertain, McIntyre has been removed from advertising for Money In The Bank. The move has come as a major surprise as the show is being held in London, England and McIntyre is WWE’s biggest British star.
