The following article contains huge spoilers regarding the special Christmas Night edition of AEW Rampage.

For one week only AEW Rampage has moved from it’s traditional slot on Friday night, and will be aired on Christmas Night which falls on a Saturday. In light of this the show was taped following the December 22nd edition of Dynamite.

In the show’s main event, Cody Rhodes challenged Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship. The match was made official on the December 8th episode of Dynamite, when Rhodes confronted Guevara saying that his open challenge had been filled.

On the special edition of Rampage, Rhodes defeated Guevara to win the TNT Championship. In the process the American Nightmare became the first man to hold the title three times. The title was presented to Rhodes by David Crockett.

The match was Rhodes’ first since his fiery bout with Andrade El Idolo on December 1st. Despite winning the match, Rhodes emerged more than a little worse for wear with burns covering his back.

Rhodes became the first TNT Champion at Double or Nothing in May 2020 where he overcame Lance Archer. Upon scoring the pin, Rhodes was handed the title by Mike Tyson. Rhodes went on to lose the title to the late Brodie Lee, before regaining it. The former WWE star held the title until Full Gear when he was vanquished by Darby Allin.
