Friday Night SmackDown is set to welcome back fans in a huge way on July 16th.
The upcoming episode of the blue brand will be the first show of the post-ThunderDome era, as live crowds finally return.
The occasion will be marked in spectacular fashion with a star-studded six-man tag team match, with Roman Reigns and The Usos taking on Edge and Rey and Domink Mysterio.
Ever since Edge returned to SmackDown he has waged war against Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. The previous two episodes of the show have ended with Edge locking in a crossface with the aide of a steel chair, first on Jimmy the most recently on Jey Uso. The move reminiscent of Edge’s attempts to defeat Reigns at WrestleMania 37.
The Mysterio’s also have their own issues with Reigns after he clashed with the pair in the run up to WWE Hell In A Cell, before defeating Rey inside the ‘Devil’s Playground.’
Interestingly, Edge and Rey Mysterio have history as a tag team, having tasted tag team gold on SmackDown back in 2002.
Edge will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at Money In The Bank on July 18th.
Also announced for SmackDown, Carmella will meet Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Belair had been set to defend her title in an “I Quit” Match at Money In The Bank, but her rival Bayley suffered a serious knee injury in the run up to the event. With Bayley set to miss nine months of action, Belair needed a new challenger. On the previous episode of SmackDown, WWE authority figure Sonya Deville announced that Carmella would get a shot at the champion, with the match being moved forward two days.
