Drew McIntyre is reportedly not signed to a new WWE contract, but logistically he may not have to be if you’re on the business side of WWE.

An initial report from Fightful stated that the former WWE Champion is not signed to a new deal and on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer backed that report and gave some further perspective as to how long the process could carry on for both parties.

McIntyre has been gone for months following his memorable WrestleMania 39 bout against Sheamus and Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

Drew McIntyre May Not Need A New WWE Contract For Quite Awhile

Meltzer says that due to injuries and time away, McIntyre’s current contract could be carried on for months but plans for the star are in place for SummerSlam.

“I mean, we’ll have to wait and see. With the time that he has off, I think that they could legally extend him through WrestleMania probably, if not pretty damn close. So, I mean, it’s a long ways off, but he has not signed a new deal. It’s obvious he is wrestling GUNTHER at SummerSlam.”

During the Money In The Bank press conference, Triple H expressed a desire to keep McIntyre in WWE for the rest of his career. McIntyre made his return to WWE at Money In The Bank on Saturday as he showed up to confront Gunther, who was fresh off a win against Matt Riddle. McIntyre took Gunther out with a Claymore Kick before grabbing hold of the Intercontinental Title and raising it above his head.
