Seth Rollins’ knee once broke the nose of the face that runs the place, John Cena.
The match where the accident occurred took place in July 2015 during an episode of Monday Night Raw in the main event. The Architect was initially challenged by Cena, who was United States Champion at the time, to a match for the WWE Championship. However, The Authority had other ideas, making the decision that it would be the US Title that would be on the line.
Seth Rollins Reigned As WWE Champion When Breaking John Cena’s Nose
The nose break took place when Seth Rollins hit a flying knee into the face of the United States Champion. Cena would go down immediately with blood pouring from his nose, momentarily stunned by the strike. The referee would back Rollins away to check on the leader of the Cenation, with a member of the medical team double checking that the match could continue. The match would conclude with a broken nosed John Cena locking in the STF onto Rollins, forcing the challenger to submit.
Cena’s issues with Rollins would surface when the 16 time World Champion took issue to the way that The Architect would present himself as the top champion in WWE following the events that took place at the Battleground event, where Rollins retained the WWE Championship over Brock Lesnar due to interference by The Undertaker. Known as The Heist of the Century, Rollins captured the WWE Championship for the first time in his career by cashing in his Money in he Bank contract in the main event of WrestleMania 31, which saw Brock Lesnar defend the title against the 2015 Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns.
While John Cena retained the US Title on Raw, a rematch at SummerSlam 2015 would see Seth Rollins be victorious. The Visionary defeated the Hollywood star with the help of Jon Stewart, who ran down to the ring with a steel chair in hand. Stewart looked conflicted as to who to strike, eventually choosing to drive the chair into Cena’s midsection. Rollins would hit a Pedigree on the former WWE Champion to win the match and become a double champion.
