Former AEW World Champion MJF opened up about being cast in Happy Gilmore 2.
In addition to his success inside the squared circle, former AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Freidman has also made his way into the world of acting. Though his on-screen role was reduced, MJF played a part in 2023’s The Iron Claw, and in January of 2024 he wrapped filming on the upcoming movie The Floaters.
Deadline reported back in September that Friedman had also been cast in Happy Gilmore 2, a Netflix sequel to Adam Sandler’s iconic 1996 hit Happy Gilmore. Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are set to reprise their roles from the original film, and the project will be directed by Kyle Newacheck. Former WWE 24/7 Champion Bad Bunny is also a part of the cast, as is former WWE Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
Speaking in a new interview with Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated, Maxwell Jacob Friedman opened up about being cast in the movie, revealing that Adam Sandler himself loved his audition and wanted him to try out for a larger role.
“Adam Sandler himself saw my audition and he was apparently laughing like a hyena. Then he said, I want this guy to not audition for the other role I auditioned for originally. I’d like him to audition to be this role. I auditioned for that role and I got the role and it’s a big role in the movie. I’m very excited for the movie when it comes out.”
