Hollywood megastar Russell Crowe made a surprise appearance on the WrestleMania 39 broadcast on night two of the spectacular.

The Gladiator star narrated the video promo package for the Hell In A Cell match between Edge and Finn Balor. The video segment featured clips from Crowe’s latest movie The Pope’s Exorcist.

In the film, Crowe plays the role of Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican’s chief exorcist. The action is based on actual cases Amorth described in two of his memoirs.

Russell Crowe Praises “Great Pro Wrestling”

In a post on Twitter, Crowe reflected on WrestleMania 39 and the efforts of Finn Balor and Edge during their Hell In A Cell match.

Shout out for the efforts of @EdgeRatedRand @FinnBalorinside the Hell in a Cell at #Wrestlemania. All the heart and drama of great pro wrestling. Well done to both and to @WWE

The match featured a stunning entrance from Edge who appeared wearing a mask to Slayer’s ‘Southside of Heaven’ as he reprised his ‘Brood’ persona. Inside the cage itself, Edge went to war with Balor who was wrestling as ‘The Demon.’

However, the match came to a halt after Edge threw a ladder into Balor. Although the former Universal Champion got his hands up, it did little to protect him from the impact. The match was briefly stopped with Balor requiring 14 staples at ringside to fix a massive cut on the top of his head.

Despite the injury, Balor went on to finish the match where he was defeated thanks to a con-chair-to.
