Hikaru Shida, the AEW Women’s Champion, is in Japan to produce matches in the AEW Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament.
Sixteen women have been announced for the tournament. 8 will take part in matches in Japan with 8 having their matches in the US.Shida took to social media to explain her absence from recent editions of AEW Dynamite and to update people on what she’s doing.
“Sorry I didn’t show up on #AEWDynamite for a while but….. I’m working a lot for this!!!!! And [it has] reminded me of my producing shows. Stay tuned for AEW ladies!!”

Japanese website Proresu-Today has reported that the Japanese matches are expected to take place with no fans present.The winner of the Japanese half of the draw will then travel to the USA to take on the winner of that half of the tournament in the final.The US side of the draw is expected to take place at Daily’s Place as part of regular AEW programming.
Among those taking part in the tournament to challenge Shida for her championship are the other 5 participants of the 6-woman tag team match from Double Or Nothing 2019.Ryo Mizunami, Emi Sakura, Yuka Sakazaki, and Aja Kong will all compete in Japan.The first AEW Women’s Champion Riho will compete in the US half of the draw.She will be joined by, among others, former NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa, former AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose, and current NWA Women’s Champion Serena Deeb.
No schedule has been given for the tournament and the brackets for the matches have not yet been announced.
Hikaru Shida is the longest-reigning AEW Women’s World Champion, defeating Nyla Rose for the title at Double Or Nothing 2020.
