Hikaru Shida Appears As Guest Referee For ChocoPro

All Elite Wrestling’s Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida is currently in Japan, reportedly to serve as a producer for the Japanese half of the upcoming Women’s Eliminator tournament.

Far from resting on her laurels however, Shida recently returned to her old stomping grounds in Ichigaya Chocolate Square where Emi Sakura’s ChocoPro promotion is filmed.

ChocoPro is a pandemic necessitated spin off of Sakura’s Gatoh Move promotion, with the unique action performed directly to camera, due to the no-fans environment, and often without a ring.

The show, in which the wrestlers often compete on mats with just a small window ledge to jump from, was a critical hit throughout 2020, attracting a feverish international fanbase.

Shida was herself trained by Emi Sakura, as was fellow AEW star Riho, and took the return visit to Japan as an opportunity to feature on her mentor’s latest creation.

The show features several women slated for the tournament including ChocoPro standout Mei Suruga, Veny (otherwise known as ASUKA), Ryo Mizunami and Sakura herself.

Whilst in Japan, Shida confirmed her attendance at Pro Wrestling NOAH’s card from the Nippon Budokan, which saw Keiji Mutoh claim the GHC Heavyweight Championship.

The Japanese half of the AEW Women’s Eliminator tournament begins on Monday and can be viewed on AEW’s YouTube channel.
