The Undertaker is widely regarded as one of the greatest WWE Superstars in history, having tangled with a cast of legends for the best part of 30 years.
So naturally when The Deadman finally retired, he had a whole wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on to the next generation. One NXT Superstar who has repeatedly spoken with the legend about their own career is Carmelo Hayes.
The 28-year-old star is one of the most highly-rated stars in NXT and the current NXT Champion after defeating Bron Breakker at Stand & Deliver.
In conversation with Alistair McGeorge for The Metro, Hayes recalled his lengthy conversations with Undertaker and initially being shocked that the Hall of Famer even knew who he was. Hayes added that speaking with the veteran helped a number of ideas click in ways that they hadn’t before.
“The cool thing is, he knew who I was. That was the thing where I was like, “Oh my God!” I was like, “Hey, how are you doing?” He was like, “Yeah, I know who are you.” Inside, I’m like, “Holy…”‘ he laughed.
The cool thing is, he was so chilled. Not like he wouldn’t be chilled, but you just never know. But he’s just so cool, he was just so relaxed and broke it down in a way – sometimes you’ll hear the same thing said a different way from somebody else, and it clicks.
He had told me one or two things that I was like, “Oh Shoot! Yeah, that’s pretty much what they’ve been telling me but not like that!” Taker was cool, man, and I’ve seen him a couple times since and he’s always being very cool.”
The Undertaker Was Offered A Job At The Performance Center
Speaking back in March, The Undertaker revealed that he had been approached about working at the Performance Center. However, he explained that it was tough for him to talk with the next generation and pass on his expertise when he was struggling with the idea of retirement.
