On Monday Night Raw, it was announced that Randy Orton would defend his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre next Monday in a Hell in a Cell rematch.
The bout which was set for the Survivor Series go-home edition of the red brand was announced prior to the main event of Raw which saw Drew McIntyre and The New Day defeat Randy Orton, The Miz and John Morrison in a 6-Man Tag Team Match.
Of course, the clash has higher stakes than just the WWE Championship. With Randy Orton set face WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Survivor Series on November 22, the entire fabric of the event could change should we get a shock result.
After all, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter had reported prior to Hell in a Cell that WWE’s plans were for Drew vs. Roman at the elimination spectacle for the huge heel vs. babyface main event showdown.
It was also reported by the journalist that many in WWE were originally against a Randy Orton reign as they didn’t believe his inevitable WrestleMania 37 war with Edge needed a title on the line.
Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell on October 25.
