Vince McMahon once made this promise to Goldberg.
Scheduled to have his retirement later this year in 2025, Goldberg is currently recovering from his stem cell therapy. Last year, during an appearance on ESPN, the former Universal Champion announced that he would be competing in one final retirement match in WWE, this year.
In the past few months, several speculations have been made surrounding his last opponent, with the most obvious guess being Gunther, based on their Bad Blood PLE interaction last year. However, neither an opponent nor the retirement match date has been finalized yet.
Goldberg last wrestled against Roman Reigns at the Elimination Chamber 2022 PLE in Saudi Arabia and has not donned his boots since. Recently speaking to Ariel Helwani The Ariel Helwani Show, the Hall of Famer opened up on his last match against Reigns, and how McMahon had promised him one more final match, which unfortunately never came to fruition.
“Vince had promised me another match because not too many people know this, but I took the Roman match with like a month prior notice, and I had Covid. That’s not the way to go out. I always, in the bottom of my heart, wanted to go out and present myself in a little bit more positively than I was able to. I mean, Paul and I spoke and we came to an agreement that in 2025 I’d have my retirement match.”
