An AEW star has admitted that they’ve got one eye on a life after wrestling, revealing that it’s taking longer and longer to recover from matches.

Professional wrestling is a brutal business, and it has been that way ever since the industry was created. From the mental toll of life on the road, to the physical beating that performers’ bodies take by often wrestling multiple times a week, no one gets out completely unscathed.

Following comments from Edge regarding the end of his career being in sight, another star, this time from AEW, has also admitted that they’ve got one eye on the future.

Ruby Soho made her AEW debut on September 5th 2021 at All Out following a five-year stint with WWE. However, the star began her career back in 2010, which means she’s been taking bumps, multiple nights a week for more than a decade.

During an appearance on an AEW panel at GalexyCon, Soho reflected on the damage that wrestling has done to her body. While the former WWE star admitted that she hasn’t got plans to hang up her boots any time soon, she did concede that it’s taking her longer and longer to recover from matches.

“I feel it a lot more, it takes me a lot more to recover from matches than it used to. After each one I am hurting a little bit more, so it’s just gotten me to start thinking about life after wrestling, which before I had blinders on, ‘this is what I am doing,’ I am not necessarily preparing for it, but I also want to know my interests outside of this.”

Soho added that she’s going to keep going as long as her body allows, before explaining that she has more years behind her than in front of her.

“This will still always be the driving force behind everything that I am doing right now, and I love it more than anything,” she said. “But, I am held together with toothpicks and bubblegum at this point guys, so I think I’ve got more years behind me than ahead of me, but I am going to do this for as long as I can.”

Ruby Soho’s name was recently brought into a heated social media spat between Liv Morgan and Shotzi. As the pair exchanged insults, Shotzi accused the SmackDown Women’s Champion of getting the former Ruby Riott fired.
