Heel Star Answers John Cena’s Open Challenge On WWE SmackDown; And It’s Not Brock Lesnar

John Cena No Longer Odds-On Favourite To Win WWE Royal Rumble

John Cena has a new challenge, and it is not Brock Lesnar.

Following Brock Lesnar’s brutal ambush on Cena at the 2025 SummerSlam PLE, The Leader of Cenation came face-to-face with a brand new problem.

Cena kicked off the August 8th episode of SmackDown by reflecting on his career before putting over the Montreal crowd. Engulfed in “Thank you Cena” chants, the 17-time World Champion called out Brock Lesnar, before threatening him with a “John Cena problem”.

However, just moments after challenging Lesnar, Cena also issued an open challenge to the locker room, claiming that if anyone has a Cena problem, they can come and get some. However, as Cena waited for a potential challenger, fans witnessed Logan Paul come out and challenge the veteran.

The Maverick interrupted Cena, criticizing him for becoming a face and boasting about his own consistent realness. However, as the two conversed, Paul’s partner, Drew McIntyre, would attack Cena from behind, leading to Cody Rhodes making the save.

Moments before the segment closed and Paul and McIntyre walked away, Cena confirmed a singles match between him and Logan Paul at Clash in Paris on August 31st, 2025. He would also set up a tag-team match between Paul, McIntyre against Cena and Rhodes later on the August 8th episode of SmackDown.

Drew McIntyre Wants To Face John Cena Later This Year

Fresh off his victory at SummerSlam 2025, Drew McIntyre appeared in an interview on SEN Sporting Capital, and opened up about his desire to face John Cena later this year.

John Cena, that would be a fun match in Perth. I need to get one of those last matches. Now that he’s Super Cena again, I don’t want any part of these last six months. What a waste of time. Now that he’s back to Super Cena, if that match happens, eventually, I’ll be very happy to send him right into retirement. He’s doing a great job in Hollywood. Peacemaker is amazing. I’ll be happy to kick him out the door and continue the good work he’s doing outside of the company.”
