Dave Meltzer provided a positive health update on Kenny Omega following the star’s hospitalization for diverticulitis.
On the December 13th episode of AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega issued a challenge to Big Bill and Ricky Starks for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. The match was made official for Worlds End, but on December 15th, Omega made the shocking announcement that he was out of action indefinitely. It was soon reported that he’d been hospitalized with diverticulitis, a fact Jericho confirmed on the December 20th episode of Dynamite as he wished his partner well.
Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave an update on Omega’s progress, saying that the star is doing better.
“It’s been six days since Omega was hospitalized. And by the way, he is doing better, but he’s got a long road ahead of him.”
Continuing, Meltzer made it clear that Omega is likely to be out of action for the foreseeable future and that fans shouldn’t count on him to challenge for AEW gold any time soon.
“I’m going to go with the idea that Omega is out for a long, long time, so I’m not going to figure him into this [building up challengers for AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF] right now until later.”
Sending his own best wishes to Kenny Omega, Don Callis recently posted a wholesome update.
When Did Kenny Omega Last Wrestle In AEW?
Kenny Omega’s most recent bout before announcing his hiatus took place on the December 9th episode of AEW Collision. On that occasion, he defeated fellow Canadian Ethan Page in front of a Montreal crowd.
Ethan Page recently explained his request to join Ring of Honor as he wanted to wrestle more often, having had very sporadic appearances on AEW television.
