“He Could Have Been Paralysed”: Former WWE Announcer Blasts Darby Allin Spot At AEW Revolution

Not everyone is pleased with Darby Allin’s actions in the main event of AEW Revolution.

Allin had the honour of being a part of Sting’s final match at the pay-per-view, teaming with The Icon one final time as they defeated The Young Bucks inside the Greensboro Coliseum. Ask any fan who watched the match about Allin’s involvement and they will all respond with a comment about Allin’s insane dive, which saw the former TNT Champion jump off a giant ladder and go crashing through a sheet of glass that was placed onto a row of chairs.

Literally seconds after impact the result of the fall was apparent as Allin was covered in blood after being cut from the glass, only getting worse with each close-up shot. The spot has divided fans greatly, some praising the spectacle of the high-risk move with others believing that he went too far with the move.

Former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman criticised the spot on social media. Aware that AEW fans would fire back at his thoughts, The Coach stated that the move was not needed and should not be a substitute for storytelling, adding that it would not happen in WWE:

Ok AEW army come after me. This is bananas and SO unnecessary. Can someone please teach the writers and Tony Khan that if you tell a good story you don’t have to do that crap and damn near kill yourself. Other than Mick Foley find any videos of a top star from WWE doing anything this reckless. I am all about getting talked about after a show but my god. If he hits one of those chairs he could have paralyzed himself and broken his back. Tell a story and make the fans care. Then this won’t have to happen or even be talked about doing.

How Injured Is Darby Allin?

Covered in blood and taken out for most of the match following the dive, many are understandably concerned for the welfare of Allin after he crashed through a pane of glass. According to a report after the match, the amount of stitches that Darby Allin required has been revealed.

Echoing the sentiment of The Coach, Jim Cornette gave his thoughts on the spot.
