A former World Champion has revealed that Gunther has turned down a match with them on multiple occasions.
The longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion has garnered a reputation as being one of the toughest members of the roster that very few have been able to overcome. Currently a participant in the King of the Ring tournament and defeating long-time rival Sheamus to advance to the next round, The Ring General has become a favourite to emerge victorious at the upcoming PLE.
Despite the fact that Gunther is one star that many on the roster would not want to face, Bobby Lashley has claimed that the former Intercontinental Champion does not want to face The All Mighty and has been ducking him repeatedly.
Appearing on The Bump to discuss the King of the Ring tournament, Lashley stated that he wanted to face the Raw star in the future and has asked for the match but his request was denied:
“One person that I’d like to get my hands on because they’ve kept us really far apart for so long is Gunther. [Hosts bring up what Gunther did to Sheamus] Oh, yeah, I’m really nervous about that [laughs]. I’m not the one…look, I’ve asked for this matchup several times. I even asked him. He didn’t want to. He backed out.”
Sadly, Lashley will not get the chance to face the leader of Imperium in the tournament as the former WWE Champion was removed due to injury.
Gunther Looks To Reignite Old Rivalry
Although the former Intercontinental Champion allegedly does not want to go one-on-one with The All Mighty, he has expressed a desire to start a previous feud that many are looking forward to seeing again. When asked about the rivalry, Gunther stated that it was a “no-brainer.”
H/t to Fightful.
