How The Hardy Boyz “Stole” Kurt Angle’s WrestleMania Pyro

Hardy Boyz WrestleMania 33

The spectacular pyro that went off for the Hardy Boyz at WrestleMania 33 was originally meant for WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle!

One of the highlights of WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, FL was the surprise return of the Hardy Boyz to WWE after years away from the company. WrestleMania hosts the New Day set the stage for a mystery team to enter a ladder match for the Raw Tag Team Championships, and while they teased that they themselves would be the surprise entrants, the crowd erupted when the familiar Hardy Boyz theme music began to play.

Matt and Jeff Hardy won the Raw Tag Team Championships at the event, and a spectacular display of pyro erupted to aid in their celebration. However, it turns out that the pyro was originally meant for Kurt Angle to acknowledge his Hall of Fame induction, which ended up feeling less special than Angle was expecting.

Speaking on the Wives of Wrestling Podcast, Matt’s wife Reby Hardy hilariously recalled her husband’s grand entrance and the pyro display that followed the match. She revealed that Kurt Angle’s wife Giovanna was the one to clue her in to the fact that the pyro wasn’t originally meant for the Hardy Boyz.

“WrestleMania 33 was the big debut of Matt and Jeff, the big surprise at WrestleMania so that is a big, huge WrestleMania day for The Hardys, otherwise known as ‘Fuck Kurt Angle Day. Apparently, I didn’t know until after they came out — it was a beautiful moment, right? They’re going down this beautiful, long ramp, and all the fans are going crazy. It’s a great moment, and there’s pyro, and there’s fireworks in the sky and Matt’s going in slow motion like this [stretches arms]. It’s amazing, right? Beautiful.

“So I don’t know if it was like right after, or a couple of days, or what, Giovanna said, ‘Hey, did you notice how you know at the end of Matt and Jeff’s match there at WrestleMania that the fireworks were red, white, and blue?’ I was like, ‘No, I didn’t. I was preoccupied. I didn’t know what the f*ck was going on.’ She goes, ‘Yeah, those were Kurt’s fireworks.'”

Giovanna Angle chimed in, saying that she found it hilarious how upset her husband was when the pyro didn’t go off for him during his Hall of Fame moment.

“It’s funny as sh*t, okay? If you see a video of Kurt… you know how he comes out and they do the Hall of Fame? He did this [raises arms] waiting for his fireworks, and it didn’t happen. Kurt comes out after, and I come up to him, and he was like, ‘They didn’t do my fireworks.’ He was so f*ckin’ butthurt.”

Jeff Hardy recently made his AEW debut, joining his brother Matt and re-forming the Hardy Boyz.
