Gunther To Challenge For WWE Championship Next Month

Gunther is looking to become champion in WWE once more following the events that took place at WrestleMania 41.

Much like in 2024, The Ring General suffered a major loss to the underdog on The Grandest Stage when he tapped out to Jey Uso, losing his World Heavyweight Championship in the process.

Following a brief rivalry with Pat McAfee that culminated in the former World Champion defeating the Raw announcer at Backlash, Gunther is once again looking to win gold.

On the May 12th episode of Raw, The Ring General interrupted Jey Uso, who is set to put his World Title on the line against Logan Paul at the next Saturday Night’s Main Event special on May 24th. Informing Uso and the fans of the latest developments, Gunther announced that he would be facing the winner of Uso vs. Paul on the June 9th Raw with the title on the line.

If The Ring General is successful in the title match, he will become the first wrestler to hold the current iteration of the World Heavyweight Championship twice.

Pat McAfee Details Damage Suffered In Gunther Match

As previously noted, Pat McAfee faced the former World Champion in a match at Backlash after being choked out by The Ring General on the Raw after WrestleMania. Although McAfee got in a couple of shots and hope spots, Gunther was dominant throughout and picked up the victory despite interference from Michael Cole. Speaking about the match a few days later, Pat McAfee detailed the extent of the damage suffered.
