Gunther’s frustration boiled over on the Raw after WrestleMania 41, leading to a violent outburst against the announce team at ringside.
Appearing unannounced through the crowd, the former Intercontinental Champion confronted Michael Cole as chants of “you tapped out” echoed through the arena. The crowd was referring to Gunther’s shocking submission loss to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, where he tapped out to a rear-naked choke.
Gunther, clearly incensed, confronted Cole at the commentary desk. When Cole calmly reminded him that he wasn’t the one who tapped out on Saturday, the enraged Ring General snapped. He grabbed Cole and locked him in a chokehold.
Pat McAfee immediately rushed to his colleague’s aid, only to find himself in the same position. The Ring General released Cole and turned his fury on McAfee, choking him out on the floor before WWE officials stormed the scene to restore order.
McAfee had to be helped to the trainer’s room by medical personnel, with Cole close by. Backstage, Adam Pearce urged Cole to take the rest of the night off, but Cole refused.
How Long Did Gunther Say He Would Continue To Wrestle For?
Gunther spoke about how long he thinks he will continue to wrestle and said that he doesn’t have a timeframe for retirement, but will monitor his health and how he looks as he grows older. He emphasised changes to the wrestling schedule, meaning he is wrestling less and travelling less, which he believes will help extend the length of his career.
Following WrestleMania, Damian Priest spoke about his match and Slayer entrance.
