Gunther and one Imperium stablemate are in talks for a main roster call-up and could appear as soon as this weekend.
While the Raw after WrestleMania didn’t feature any NXT stars being called up to the main roster, talks are reportedly in place for one of NXT’s top acts to appear, potentially sooner rather than later.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, Imperium is being discussed for a main roster call-up, and the group would most likely be headed to SmackDown. Interestingly, the names being pitched are Gunther (previously known as WALTER) and Marcel Barthel specifically, but not their stablemate Fabian Aichner, which may explain the angle on this week’s NXT 2.0 that saw Aichner walk out on Barthel during their match with the Creed Brothers.
The report also notes that when Gunther moved to the United States, the plan was always for him to move to either Raw or SmackDown.
While he was still known as WALTER, Gunther was the longest-reigning NXT UK Champion with his reign lasting an incredible 870 days. On the latest episode of NXT 2.0, he challenged Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship, but was unable to defeat the man who won his title back from Dolph Ziggler on Monday Night Raw. As Bron Breakker was celebrating his victory, it was revealed that his father Rick Steiner had been kidnapped by Joe Gacy and Harland.
The team of Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel won the NXT Tag Team Championships from MSK at Halloween Havoc and held the titles until MSK regained them at NXT Stand & Deliver over WrestleMania weekend. However, it was reported on April 6th that MSK member Nash Carter has been released from the WWE following allegations of abuse and misconduct by his wife Kimber Lee.
