Gunther has surpassed another major milestone in his historic Intercontinental Championship reign and took to social media to share his stoic celebration!

The Ring General’s Intercontinental Championship has been one of WWE’s most dominant in recent years, aside from Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Making his main roster debut in April 2022, Gunther quickly captured WWE gold by winning the Intercontinental title in June and has maintained an undefeated singles record for over 16 months.

On top of the dominance of his reign, Gunther can now add another accolade that makes his run with the belt all the more historic after already surpassing the likes of Randy Savage, The Rock and Mr Perfect.

On August 9th 2023, Gunther surpassed Pedro Morales to become the second longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history at 245 days.

The only superstar to have held the title longer is The Honky Tonk Man who held it for 454 days. Should Gunther hold the title until September 8th, he will surpass that and become the title’s longest-reigning champion in history.

The Imperium leader took to X (formerly Twitter) alongside his stablemates Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci to celebrate the achievement, posting a stoic yet on-brand picture with the belt.

How Long Has Gunther Held The Intercontinental Championship For?

Gunther has held the Intercontinental Championship for 428 days at the time of writing, originally winning the title on the June 10th 2022 edition of SmackDown from Ricochet.

Gunther has gone on to defend his belt against some of the best WWE has to offer today including Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio and Braun Strowman.
