Grudge Match Planned For AEW Double Or Nothing [Spoiler]

AEW Double or Nothing

With just over a month to go until Double or Nothing, AEW is reportedly planning to hold a match months in the making at the major pay-per-view.

Following Keith Lee’s debut with the company in February 2022, he formed a successful alliance with Swerve Strickland. Calling themselves ‘Swerve In Our Glory’, the pair went on to win the AEW Tag Team Championships in a Triple Threat match in the Fyter Fest edition of Dynamite that July, defeating The Gunns and then-champions The Young Bucks at the event.

Lee and Swerve held on to the titles for several months until being defeated by The Acclaimed in the second of a three-match series at Dynamite Grand Slam that September. In the final match at Full Gear, Lee refused to join his partner in using weapons to regain the championships. This led to Strickland slapping him and Lee walked out on his partner.

While they did team once more at ROH Final Battle in December to take on Shane Taylor Promotions, a miscommunication saw Swerve walk out on Lee during the bout – although Lee was able to win the match regardless.

On the following edition of Dynamite, Swerve formed Mogul Affiliates with rapper Rick Ross, Parker Boudreaux, and Granden Goetzman. The group brutally assaulted Lee, with Strickland placing a cinder block on his chest and hitting a stomp from the top rope.

Lee was out of action for several weeks afterwards, but returned in February with Strickland in sights. Teaming with Dustin Rhodes, Lee defeated Boudreaux and Strickland in a tag match, but still hasn’t been able to fight him one-on-one. However, that could be about to change.

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland will settle the score at AEW Double or Nothing

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Lee will finally get his grudge match with Strickland at Double or Nothing on May 28th.

The plan right now is to hold off the first Keith Lee vs. Swerve Strickland match until the PPV.

Meltzer went on to run down the other likely matches for the show, including Blackpool Combat Club vs. The Elite, and MJF taking on the other pillars of the company.

“So it looks to be MJF vs. Allin vs. Jack Perry vs. Sammy Guevara, something with the BCC vs. Elite in an eight-man program, Chris Jericho vs. Adam Cole and perhaps Jade Cargill vs. Taya Valkyrie as some of the top matches.
