Grizzled Young Veterans Originally Scheduled To Win 2020 Dusty Classic

According to Fightful’s premium service Fightful Select, The Grizzled Young Veterans were originally meant to win the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Former NXT UK Tag Team Champions Zack Gibson and James Drake made the leap from Britain to the United States in 2020 after failing to regain their gold from Gallus at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II. Announcing themselves for the annual doubles tournament, the stalwart team announced their arrival in a huge way.

While the rest of their NXT UK brethren fell by the wayside, the Veterans proved they were made of sterner stuff when they dispatched The Time Splitters in Round One and The Undisputed ERA in the Semi-Final in order to meet The BroserWeights in the Final.

However, instead of rounding off an impressive debut with a victory, the Brits fell to Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle in a tremendous outing with the winners going on to NXT TakeOver: Portland to defeat The Undisputed ERA for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Now, Fightful Select have revealed that The Grizzled Young Veterans were originally meant to triumph in the 2020 tournament but plans were derailed after the oddball pairing of Dunne and Riddle caught fire with the audience.

In an attempt to recapture the success of 2020, Gibson and Drake entered the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and again made it to the Final at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day but fell to MSK in another outstanding clash.
