AEW star Griff Garrison has revealed how close he came to having one of his legs amputated.
Griff Garrison joined AEW in June 2020 and soon allied himself with Brian Pillman Jr, with the duo calling themselves The Varsity Blondes. Since teaming up, the two have taken on the likes of FTR, Santana and Ortiz, and Private Party. They received an AEW Tag Team Championship match against The Young bucks in May 2021 but ultimately came up short.
During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Garrison revealed that his wrestling career almost never came to be as he almost had to have one of his legs amputated. The star explained that, after he broke his foot some years ago, doctors discovered he had a tumour growing there, and if left undetected, it could have grown into his leg.
“Ever since after my senior football year, I started having this nagging pain in my foot. I didn’t know what it was so I started to go and see doctors. I’d get a frozen lacrosse ball and rub it on my foot, wear insoles, I’d try everything.
“Then finally when I broke my foot, the doctors were, like, ‘Yeah, you have been growing a tumour in your foot for two years.’ She said that it was eroding my heel bone, and if we didn’t discover it then it would have gone up into my leg.
“If that happened, they would’ve had to amputate my leg.”
The Varsity Blondes’ Griff Garrison, Brian Pillman Jr., and Julia Hart are currently embroiled in a feud with the House of Black’s Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews. On the May 4th edition of Dynamite, things became more personal as Black attempted to manipulate Julia Hart into attacking her allies with a steel chair in a segment which has been widely panned, including by Jim Cornette.
