Gran Metalik Reportedly Requests WWE Release

Lucha House Party

WWE Superstar and Lucha House Party member Gran Metalik has reportedly requested his release from his WWE contract which runs out in 2023.

Gran Metalik joined WWE in 2016, initially as part of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament that saw a new WWE Cruiserweight Champion crowned. Metalik defeated former WWE Tag Team Champion Tajiri as well as the current IWGP Tag Team Champion Zack Sabre Jr. on his way to the final of the tournament where he was defeated by TJP.

From there Gran Metalik was a fixture of the cruiserweight division before forming Lucha House Party in 2018 with fellow luchadors Kalisto and Lince Dorado. That trio was split up in 2020 with Metalik and Dorado drafted to RAW while Kalisto stayed on SmackDown before he was released from WWE in April 2021.

A new report from Más Lucha says the man known in Mexico as Máscara Dorada is also ready to look for pastures new:

“Mexican wrestler Gran Metalik, who in Mexico we know as Máscara Dorada, has asked the North American company WWE for a release from his contract due to lack of opportunities and a clear project within its ranks; this was confirmed to Más Lucha by sources close to the masked wrestler from Guadalajara, who debuted on the RAW brand in 2017.”

“For several months, Gran Metalik, a member of Lucha House Party, had shown his dissatisfaction with the way his career has been handled so far, so he seriously considered requesting the release of his contract, which is valid until 2023.”

Prior to joining WWE, Gran Metalik had carved out a successful career in Mexico for the CMLL promotion while also working for New Japan Pro Wrestling.
