WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg officially retired after losing to World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event XL this past week. The match and retirement did not go off as everyone had hoped, and now Goldberg is speaking out on various rumors and speculation, and personal grievances he has.
Goldberg appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show today to express frustration with certain aspects of the match. He was adamant about feeling honored and privileged for the opportunity, but said he was not thrilled with his retirement match taking place at Saturday Night’s Main Event, noting that he would have preferred more control over the time they had, and the space, noting that he had to make the best of the situation he was given.
Da Man then responded with “100%” when asked if he would have preferred a PLE match instead of SNME. Helwani followed-up by asking if Goldberg wanted to retire at a WWE PLE because he’d have more time.
“Yeah, absolutely. They cut me off after friggin’ 20 seconds with the microphone in my hand, for God’s sake. Yeah, I got two weeks, man. I got two weeks before I can really spill the beans, and make my feelings kind of… known about the entire rundown, from the inception of the idea, to its delivery… it was a little less than to be desired, but again, I’m not going to complain because not many people get that opportunity. There were a number of variables that were such that… you’re put behind the 8-ball, and to be able to go out there and perform a 12-13-14-15 minute match, that felt like 115 minutes, but it was a great opportunity, and Gunther was an unbelievable guy to work with. It was awesome, I had a good time, man. I was laughing in there when he was chopping me, I actually had fun,” Goldberg said.
Goldberg Reveals Injury And NDA Situation With WWE
The WWE SNME XL main event between Bill Goldberg and World Heavyweight Champion Gunther had an official time of 14 minutes and 23 seconds, according to Ariel Helwani on his show today. In continuing the discussion with Da Man, Helwani mentioned this, noting that SNME marked Goldberg’s longest match since Armageddon 2003, where Triple H dethroned Goldberg of the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat that included Kane, which went for 19 minutes and 30 seconds.
Goldberg responded to the match time and wondered where were the critics that claim he can’t last longer than two minutes in the ring. He also mentioned people who complain about how much he sweats, then revealed how he suffered some sort of hand injury in the match with Gunther.
“But that was fun, man. There was a moment in that match where I actually enjoyed myself, and I can’t say that I’ve done that very many times, so for that, and a plethora of other little reasons, I think I had a good time Saturday night, and I’m not even sore, man. My hand is the only thing that hurts a little bit. [Helwani: is it broken?] Who knows? I don’t know. I don’t know what happened… maybe when I went through the barrier or something. Who knows? One of those injuries I’m going to tape an aspirin on it, and it’ll feel better,” Goldberg said.
Goldberg has been the subject of various backstage reports coming out of SNME, including news on how a WWE official reportedly apologized for his post-match speech getting cut. When talking to Helwani today, the WCW Legend mentioned “two weeks” once again. Helwani asked what this means, and if Goldberg has an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) with WWE.
“I’ve got two more weeks…yeah, let’s just say that [there is a NDA],” Goldberg replied.
Goldberg is rumored to do more work with WWE, if not wrestle one more match, despite the retirement. Triple H made an interesting teaser at the post-show press conference this weekend.
