Goldberg Recounts Surprise Phone Call From Triple H Regarding Final WWE Match

Goldberg has detailed the conversation he had with Triple H regarding coming back to WWE for one final match.

Despite previously claiming that his in-ring career may be over as he was focused on other projects, the Hall of Famer made the announcement in late 2024 that he would be returning to the ring for one more match the following year.

While at one point it appeared that the former World Champion’s final match was not going to happen after Vince McMahon did not deliver on his promise, a lot has changed in the 3 years since.

While speaking with Ariel Helwani, Goldberg spoke about how the match materialised. Beginning his comments, the Hall of Famer clarified that it was not something that he actively campaigned for:

“I don’t beg. I’m never going to do that,”

Continuing, the former World Champion added that he received a call from Triple H about the match and how he is aware that it is a business decision:

“I was lucky enough one day to be on my tractor here, on the property, cutting the grass, and I get a phone call from Hunter [Triple H]. I was astonished. I hung up the first time because I didn’t know who it was. Once we had the conversation, I was extremely appreciative and honored that he would think of me. It was an interview that I did that he saw where I said I thought I was owed a retirement match and if I would still be up for that, and maybe let’s talk.

It’s a testament to something I did in the past because I deserve that kind of respect. We all know it’s a business decision at the end of the day. To what degree, nobody knows. I do believe that he was speaking from the heart and he thought if it’s something that I wanted, that I deserve it. It took them that long to call me. I wasn’t going to [beg for] it. I don’t work like that. If I had to go down like I went down in Saudi, then so be it,”

Goldberg Looks Back On Saudi Arabia Match

The Hall of Famer has made multiple appearances at major shows in Saudi Arabia to participate in special exhibition matches and also defeated “The Fiend” to win the World Championship. Also in the interview, Goldberg admitted he had some reservations regarding one of his Saudi Arabia appearances.

In other news, Pat McAfee has announced his WWE return.
