Goldberg Recalls His Tragic Accident With Bret Hart; Says He’s Been “Remorseful”

Bret Hart vs. Goldberg, Starrcade 1999

Goldberg says he’s “remorseful” for what happened during his infamous match against Bret Hart.

Several years ago, during the WCW Starrcade pay-per-view event on December 19, 1999, Bret Hart suffered a serious concussion following a kick to his head from Goldberg. This incident tragically led to the end of Hart’s in-ring career.

Since then, the tension between the two WWE Hall of Famers has been extremely high. While the former Universal Champion has issued an apology multiple times, Hart has remained sour about it and maintained his resentment toward Bill Goldberg.

Recently, during an appearance on The National Football Show ahead of his retirement match on July 12, Goldberg expressed how remorseful he had been since the incident.

I kicked Bret Hart in the head on accident a hundred years ago and I’ve been remorseful ever since. I’ve said I was sorry — and I was young in the business. People make mistakes. People have to understand that.”

Last year, during a virtual signing, Bret Hart claimed that he does not pay attention to Goldberg’s words.

Goldberg Heaps Praise On Upcoming Rival Gunther

Recently, while speaking to Dan Sileo on JAKIB Sports, Goldberg broke character to heap praise on his retirement opponent, Gunther.

I remember meeting him years ago right when he broke in and the guy had a shooting star up his a*s at that point and I knew he was gonna be destined for big things and hey, it’s an honor for me to get in the ring with him.”

“It’s an honor to step into a position to be vying for the World Heavyweight Championship at 58 years old. I don’t know of any other ones who’ve retired with a match like that.”
