Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg gave fans some encouraging news about him potentially returning to wrestle in WWE.
Goldberg wrestled his last match against Roman Reigns on 19 February at Elimination Chamber. It was reported that his contract with WWE expired after the match, and he has since been absent from television.
Prior to the match against Reigns, the 55-year-old teased his in-ring retirement on social media. While many believe his time in the ring has concluded, the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion hinted that he may still have some gas left in the tank.
In a recent interview with The New York Post, Goldberg revealed that he is still signed with WWE. The legendary star stated that he would require shoulder surgery and that his shoulder was “absolutely destroyed” throughout his recent WWE stint. Despite the injury, he admitted to feeling in “pretty good shape” compared to how he felt after the match with Reigns:
“I have worked my ass off day, after day, after day to get to a point where I feel almost normal again. I just kind of needed that break. I needed the mental focus of understanding that surgery wasn’t an option at the time and I needed to put my ass to the grindstone.”
Goldberg emphasized that he’s waiting on WWE to call him for one more match. Throughout his recent stint, the legendary star captured the Universal Championship on two occasions and wrestled at significant events such as WrestleMania and SummerSlam. ‘Da Man’ added:
“Hey, I may never get the call, you never know. But you bet your ass I’ll be ready.”
22 September will mark the 25th anniversary of Goldberg’s televised in-ring debut on WCW Monday Nitro. He was the subject of the latest Biography: WWE Legends episode, which aired Sunday night. As of now, fans of Goldberg may have to wait a bit longer to see their hero step back inside a WWE ring.
