Drew McIntyre has cited Goldberg being the person to take him to the next level at the 2021 Royal Rumble.
On January 31 at WWE’s annual elimination spectacular, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will face the toughest challenge of his career thus far, Bill Goldberg.
With the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion having built a reputation for triumphing in his first match back, the Scot will have to pull out everything in his playbook in order to stop himself becoming just another statistic and head to WrestleMania 37 with his reign still in tact.
However, while fans fear the worst, the champion himself sees the bout in a different light and in an interview with Telegraph India orated his belief that this is just what he needs in order to elevate himself to the next level:
“It’s crazy! I remember my brother and I would flip between WWE and WCW, waiting for Goldberg’s matches. Then when the video games came along, I would create myself in the Create-A-Wrestler mode and fight Goldberg. I always thought I would be WWE Champion, because that was my dream, but I never thought I would be WWE Champion fighting Goldberg. It is who I need to fight to take myself and my title reign to the next level. It’s going to be an absolute war, with McIntyre and Goldberg.”
Goldberg returned to WWE at the conclusion of Monday Night Raw: Legends Night on January 4 in order to challenge Drew McIntyre to a WWE Championship Match at the Royal Rumble.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan when ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ was unable to attend WWE television to build the bout thanks to a positive diagnosis of COVID-19. Cleared and recovered, both champion and challenger came face-to-face for the final time prior to their war on the January 25 edition of WWE’s red brand.
