While Goldberg hasn’t appeared on WWE television since being defeated by Drew McIntyre at the 2021 Royal Rumble, the WWE Hall of Famer might not be done inside the ring just yet.
During a recent appearance on WWE’s The Bump, Goldberg was asked how he would stack up against former Intercontinental Champion Big E. The former WWE Universal Champion said that a peak Goldberg could go up against anybody, and even in 2021 he’s capable of performing interesting matches.
“Let’s be perfectly honest; a different era of Goldberg could match up against anybody,” Goldberg said. “The question is could this era of Goldberg match up still with people and have it be interesting. I think the answer is absolutely yes. I think Big E could bring some stuff out of me I would want to do just to make Big E proud of me.”
Goldberg then revealed that he had in fact met Big E when the New Day star wasn’t quite so big. The former WCW Champion recalled how he met a very young Big E at a signing when he was in WCW.
“The story goes, with Big E and I, that the only match that I was ever late for, or missed, in WCW coming up was a match I called in and told them I couldn’t catch the plane because I was at a signing. And I had to stay until everyone was taken care of. Big E was one of the kids I stayed for.
“So I’ll never forget his face, I’ll never forget that day. And the fact that I made a positive impression on somebody like that who’s been so successful at what they do, it’s an honor and a privilege for me.
“So you know, getting in the ring with him would be a different situation. But it would be really cool in its own way.”
While it is unclear if or when Goldberg will get back in the ring, Big E is currently embroiled in a heated feud with Apollo Crews. After losing the Intercontinental Title to Crews at WrestleMania 37, Big E has refused to simply accept his fate. After brawling with the new champion on the April 23rd episode of SmackDown, Big is set to try and regain the title on April 30th.
