Goldberg has opened up about being compared to AEW’s one man wrecking crew Wardlow.
While Wardlow has openly discussed comparisons with WWE legend Batista, in recent months his performances and presentation have somewhat mirrored those of another famous name, Goldberg.
At his peak, Goldberg was running through the best that WCW had to offer, roared on by a partisan crowd who wanted nothing more than to see their man demolish whoever was in front of him. All the while, the would-be WWE Hall of Famer displayed a kind of natural charisma that simply cannot be taught.
Fast forward to 2022 and an incredibly charismatic powerhouse is currently battering his way through the AEW roster, cheered on by thousands of fans who live to see him Powerbomb people.
The chants of “Wardlow” that greet the star’s arrival are also eerily similar to the “Goldberg” chants that used to thunder around WCW arenas 25 years ago.
Speaking in a new interview with Graham “GSM” Matthews of Bleacher Report, the WWE star said that it was an “honour and a privilege” that people are drawing comparisons between the two.
“I understand the comparisons. I’ve heard of him for sure. I’ve seen pictures of him. I haven’t seen him work that much. But, hey, man, more power to him. There needs to be more characters like that. There needs to be serious intensity out there. There’s people that slice meat and there’s people that eat meat and he needs to be eating meat — now Big E is going to come into it.
But yeah, man , I don’t know. I’ve never read anything about a comparison from him and how he passes judgment on it. But at the end of the day, anybody that’s close to the top in their prospective business to be compared with myself. That’s an honor and a privilege,”
Wardlow recently won the TNT Championship with victory over Scorpio Sky. He most recently defended the title against Orange Cassidy on Night one of Fyter Fest.
