Goldberg Breaks Character To Admit WWE Rival Was Always Destined For Greatness

When Will Goldberg Return To WWE?

Goldberg believes this WWE rival was destined for greatness.

Earlier this week, on the June 16 episode of RAW, the former Universal Champion made his long-awaited return and confronted Gunther, challenging him for a match on the upcoming July 12 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

While the two shared a rivalry dating back to their 2024 Bad Blood confrontation, the Hall of Famer recently broke character to heap praise on The Ring General. During a recent appearance on JAKIB Sports with Dan Sileo, the former champion said,

I remember meeting him years ago right when he broke in and the guy had a shooting star up his a*s at that point and I knew he was gonna be destined for big things and hey, it’s an honor for me to get in the ring with him.

“It’s an honor to step into a position to be vying for the World Heavyweight Championship at 58 years old. I don’t know of any other ones who’ve retired with a match like that.”

While many fans are excited to see the two heavyweights collide against each other next month, a wrestling legend felt The Icon’s comeback was “insulting.”

Wrestling Legend Publicly Calls Out Creative Over Goldberg’s Return

Following Goldberg’s recent RAW return, wrestling legend Bubba Ray Dudley shared his honest thoughts on the comeback during a recent episode of Busted Open Radio.

Calling it out as “insulting”, Dudley said,

I despise lack of logic in wrestling. I get it. It’s wrestling. I get it, it’s sports entertainment. I understand creative liberty… This is not wiggle room. You know how certain politicians get voted into office, and they consistently do a bad job, but yet, every voting cycle… the people continue to vote this politician back into office? That’s what’s going on here. Until the WWE Universe decides that they hate this and walk away from the product… nothing will change.”

“Did Gunther issue an open challenge? No. Did Gunther say, ‘no matter who it is… you get the next title shot’? No… Who made the match? Why did they make the match? What’s the logic behind them saying yes?… A storyline like this, to me, is insulting because it’s just ramming something down your fan base’s throat and just expecting them to consume it.”
